Parents Can Ease School Transitions By Staying Involved

September 20, 2011, Parenting Success Network

The transition from grade school to middle school or from middle school to high school can be a stressful time for kids. Studies show that adolescents who haven’t tried drugs or alcohol are more likely to start during times of transition in order to cope with stress.

Parents can help ease the stress of school transitions by:

Encouraging open conversations about how their child is feeling
Setting aside one-on-one times with their child
Discussing the dangers of alcohol and other drugs
Monitoring their child’s activities
